However, nestled in the heart of the Mekong Delta, Chau Doc in An Giang Province offers a unique and off-the-beaten-path experience for travelers seeking an authentic Vietnamese adventure.

Unveiling Chau Doc's Charm

A Tapestry of Cultures

Chau Doc is a melting pot of cultures, shaped by its location near the border of Cambodia. The town is home to a harmonious blend of Vietnamese, Cham, Khmer, and Chinese communities. This cultural diversity is vividly reflected in the architecture, traditions, and, most notably, the cuisine.

Spiritual Tranquility at Sam Mountain

One of the highlights of Chau Doc is Sam Mountain, a spiritual haven that rises majestically from the plains. Climbing to its summit provides panoramic views of the lush surroundings and the Mekong River. At the mountain's base, you'll find ancient pagodas, such as Chua Xu Lady Temple, where pilgrims and travelers alike seek tranquility and breathtaking vistas.

Floating Markets and River Life

Chau Doc is crisscrossed by a network of rivers and canals, making it a prime location for vibrant floating markets. Cai Rang Floating Market, the largest in the Mekong Delta, is easily accessible from Chau Doc. Hop on a boat and immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere as vendors sell fresh produce, local delicacies, and handmade crafts.

The town's river life extends beyond markets. Take a boat tour along the Hau River, where floating fish farms, stilt houses, and traditional wooden boats showcase the unique way of life in the Mekong Delta.

Culinary Delights

No visit to Chau Doc is complete without indulging in its distinctive culinary offerings. The town is renowned for its fish sauce, and a visit to a local fish sauce-making village provides insight into this essential Vietnamese condiment. Additionally, don't miss the chance to savor local delicacies like "bun ca," a fish noodle soup, and "linh fish hotpot," a flavorful dish highlighting the regional aquatic bounty.

Chau Doc's riverside eateries offer a unique dining experience. Enjoying a meal on a floating restaurant while the sun sets over the Hau River is a moment to savor. Freshly caught fish, succulent prawns, and a variety of local vegetables create a culinary symphony that reflects the region's aquatic abundance.

Warm Hospitality

Chau Doc is not just a destination; it's an opportunity to connect with the warm-hearted locals. The town's small size and welcoming atmosphere make it easy for travelers to engage with residents, learn about their daily lives, and share stories. Consider staying in a homestay to fully immerse yourself in the local culture and forge lasting connections.

Festivals and Celebrations

If your visit aligns with local festivals, such as the Ba Chua Xu Temple Festival, you'll witness the town come alive with vibrant colors, traditional music, and religious ceremonies. These events offer a unique glimpse into Chau Doc's spiritual and cultural heritage.

Chau Doc

We stayed at the Chau Doc Homestay for 3 nights. We arrived at 3am unexpectedly and she still organized a taxi to come pick us up. We could easily rent a motor bike for 2 days. On one day, the host took the time to show us around a farming village and their farming fields. She explained us how they sow the seeds, pluck them and bring them to the market. We also cooked dinner with the family. Overall, it was a great and homely stay. We would recommend this place for anyone staying in Chau Doc.

Staff extremely friendly. She helped us to book our transport to HCM, and she organized the pick up from the hotel for us (for free). They also provide free bikes that we used to wonder around the city, and renting of motorbikes for cheap price. Free water bottles every day. Clean room, and spacious. With comfortable bed, a fridge, and a boiler. Good location, and cheap price. Recommended!

Great no frills place to stay. They do not serve breakfast now which was a bit of a hassle (because I didn't know before I got there and in the past they did) but otherwise for an inexpensive ..lovely place to stay in Chau Doc this is the best. Very close to the river and stores. Would stay there again for sure! Lovely owner who has been around the world!

Chau Doc

The hotel has a great view of the sunset over Núi Sam (Buddhist holy mountain). Chau Doc is a lovely non touristy Vietnamese town and a good launch point for catching the ferry to Cambodia. The ferry stop is a 600m walk from the hotel. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The shower had great pressure and the room was quiet.

Chau Doc

The room was good in general: convenient location, clean facilities, view of the street and Chau Doc market. The owner, Mr. Trung, was very helpful, though he did not seem to be chatty. He helped me to arrange a motorbike to travel around and get my clothes & shoes washed. Thank you so much, anh Trung for the stay!

Chau Doc

The only good thing is Location, 3 minutes walking from Chau Doc Speed Boat (Hotel Victoria). THe price of the room is really expensive for what it is, it is a Billiard Games House, with some rooms on the side. Lot of noise, at night but it stops at 11pm.

The hotel was very dirty and also the room was felt of dirt. I have to ask the hotel personnel to come in to clean and sweep the room. The hallway carpet was dirty and bad smell.
