Nestled along the beautiful coastline of southern Vietnam, Vung Tau stands as a captivating destination that beckons travelers with its scenic beaches, rich history, and vibrant culture. Whether you're a beach lover, a history enthusiast, or simply in search of a peaceful getaway, Vung Tau offers a unique blend of attractions to explore.

The Allure of Vung Tau’s Beaches

The city's prime location on a peninsula means beaches are never far away. Front Beach (Bãi Trước) and Back Beach (Bãi Sau) are the two most popular spots. Front Beach, closer to the city center, is perfect for those who enjoy serene sunsets and a bustling promenade. In contrast, Back Beach, known for its long stretches of golden sand and rolling waves, is ideal for swimming and water sports.

Vung Tau is not just about its beaches. The city's history is deeply intertwined with its landmarks. The Vung Tau Lighthouse, one of the oldest in Vietnam, offers panoramic views of the city and sea. The White Palace (Bach Dinh), once a retreat for French governors, now serves as a museum showcasing artifacts and providing a glimpse into the colonial era.

Culinary Delights

No visit to Vung Tau is complete without indulging in its culinary offerings. Seafood is the star here, with local markets and beachfront restaurants serving everything from grilled shrimp to steamed clams. Don’t miss trying the local specialty, Bánh khọt - tiny, savory pancakes made with rice flour and topped with shrimp.

Outdoor Activities

For the adventurous, Vung Tau offers a range of outdoor activities. Hiking to the Statue of Christ, similar to its famous counterpart in Rio de Janeiro, is a popular activity. The statue stands 32 meters high and offers another spectacular viewpoint of the city. Golf enthusiasts will find well-maintained courses, and water sports like kite surfing and jet skiing are readily available on Back Beach.

Cultural Experiences

To truly immerse yourself in the local culture, visit the Thang Tam Temple, known for its intricate architecture and spiritual significance. The city's bustling markets, such as the Vung Tau Market, are perfect for experiencing the local lifestyle and picking up souvenirs.

Vung Tau, with its blend of natural beauty, historical depth, and cultural richness, is more than just a beach destination. It's a place where every traveler can find something to love, a coastal gem waiting to be discovered.

When preparing for your trip to Vung Tau, Vietnam, you should consider the following for the best experience:

  • Choose the Appropriate Time: Vung Tau's coastal area is suitable to visit all year round, but the peak tourist season is usually in the summer. Consider what time you want to visit to avoid crowds and higher hotel room prices.
  • Beach and Sun: When you enjoy the beach, don't forget to use sunscreen and wear a hat to protect your skin from the sun's effects.
  • Book a Room in Advance: If you plan to go during the peak tourist season or on a holiday, book a hotel room in advance to avoid running out of rooms.
  • Take time to visit Nghinh Phong Cape Peak and Vung Tau historical museum. This is where you can enjoy beautiful sea views and explore Vung Tau's motor history.

  • Respect Local Culture: Always respect local culture and traditions. Please note the dress code when visiting temples and sacred sites.

Remember to follow these notes to have an enjoyable and safe vacation in Vung Tau. Hope you have great experiences in this coastal city

What guests said about hotels in Vung Tau

Solo traveller

The studio apartment was spacious, with a nice view of the hill with the statue of Jesus, good aircon, a comfy large bed, a TV with Netflix, modern bathroom. Two super clean pools are just a superb feature for anyone. I especially appreciated the English-speaking manager who was always available to answer my questions, advise me on where to eat, and what to see. The hotel's no-frills scooter rental was another top facility. I had a really good stay in Vung Tau thanks to the support of this hotel and I would 100% stay again. Thank you!

Staffs are very nice and friendly, they are very active to response my messages and provide full information that I need for my trip. The location is great, you can walk to the beach within 2 minutes. There are a lot of shops near by such as : Circle K, coffee shops, local food shops..etc...Beside that, the hotel has ''bike rental service'' that you can spend around VND 150.000 - VND 200.000/day/bike for exploring the city. Room is tidy and clean.

I like the private beach and the hotel was nice, but I didn't like the service, when I was check in. it took long time to check in, we already called make sure our passport card is okay to check in, before we arrival, but the staff give us the hard time. she wants the passport book. we wasn't happy with that service.
